As a young girl, Jula made cakes and took them to her parents' mom-n-pop grocery store in east Austin to sell by the slice. In 1982, after numerous classes and a lot of training, Jula began doing cakes professionally. She later married and moved to League City, continuing her love of baking and decorating cakes as a home business.
Jula's cakes soon took over the house and between that and the increasing demand, it was time for a change. Cakes by Jula needed a new and bigger home. February, 2008, Jula's family kicked her out of the house and the doors to her new shop opened.
Early on, Jula incorporated a commitment to quality. She understood there was no point in making a beautiful cake if it wasn't also tasty. In fact, her very first business card stated "They taste as good as they look." To this day Jula takes pride in continuing to live up to that principle. Using Jula's own recipes, the Cakes by Jula bakers put out a great-tasting product that is subject to frequent quality control checks.
Jula has brought together some excellent cake decorators to assist her. They each have varying levels of training from chef and pastry schools, along with additional courses from private instructors. They love what they do and they love making customers smile.
Customer service is also a priority at Cakes by Jula. Treating people right is not just good business to Jula, it’s part of her personal life as well. She also expects her employees to adopt the same conviction. “I want the customer to feel welcome and relaxed in my shop,” says Jula. “They should feel comfortable asking questions, and it should be a good experience for them.”
We not only specialize in cakes for every occasion, but we also have a full line of other treats to please, including cupcakes, cake balls, cookies, brownies, pastries, sweet breads, and more. And Cakes by Jula is a full-service bakery and sweet shoppe. That means we bake everything we sell here at our bakery. We put a little love and pride into everything we make.
